QUE: What initiated the talent hunt show, Star Quest?
ANS: In 2002, STAR introduced a talent hunt program – STAR Quest.
The basic objective of STAR Quest then was to discover and promote young and budding Nigerian artistes in the various music idioms. Out of the first edition emerged KC Presh, now known nationally.

Whilst the 2002 edition achieved its basic objectives, it became necessary to widen the scope of the programme into a celebration of Nigerian music to reinforce the friendship, bonding and sociability that are associated with the STAR brand. 

Thus, the 2006 STAR Quest was not about the celebration of an individual, but about the celebration of a people, their culture and their music.

The highly rated 2006 STAR Quest was group based and also adopted a reality TV concept that chronicled the making of the hottest band in Nigeria. The winning band, D’ACCORD won the big prize of N 5 million recording contract with Questionmark Records.

In 2007, the aim was to make the stakes higher. The winning band got a recording and management contract worth N 5 million, a mini van, N 300,000 cash for each band member among other things.

QUE: What is the selection process for Star Quest like?
ANS: The initial selection process is based on auditioning of short listed applicants in six zones thus: . Lagos . Owerri . Enugu . Abuja . Benin . Jos. Key cities are grouped under each of the six zones. 36 finalists in all, made up of intrumentalists and vocalists, will then be invited to the STAR Fameland for the national STAR Quest contest that is shown on national TV in 21 episodes.

ANS: Star Quest is sponsored by Nigerian Breweries Plc.

QUE: How does one get to apply and become a part of the show?
ANS: Entries are sent electronically through the brand’s website, www.star-nigeria.com. Every entry is accompanied by a brief biodata, photograph and endorsements by two referees attesting to the accuracy of the information received and the contestant’s behaviour.

QUE: What category of musical talent does one need to posses to qualify for the competition?
ANS: Star Quest is a platform that is open to all categories of musical perfomances - Vocalists, Instrumentalist and Song Writers.
