On outer appearance there’s no hiding the fact that DXB is as determined as the other bands in the house to see this competition to the extreme. It is a band of extremes and you see it on display in various forms – on stage, at rehearsals, in dance routines, in the passion of the vocalists and in the commitment of the instrumentalists.
For DXB, it’s all in the name! Sunday Geoffrey, the keyboardist – and bandleader for one day (he opted out at the early stages preferring to take creative responsibility instead) is a genius on the keys, and adaptable to any genre! Lead guitarist, Michael Adetoye Adeyemi is a marvel of extraordinary talent and a beauty to watch when he takes on a solo. Jeremiah Olaleke is a sideshow all by himself on the drums. But the mellowing quotient comes in the form of bandleader Andrew Igwe, who took over band leadership when Geoffrey declined. The ‘Cool Igwe’ has guided the band well, as evident in their almost-perfect sound. Add to the mix, the vocalists Victor Ijeoma andf Joy Okoli, both arguably the V6 engine of the band. Victor is a chip off the old school soul singers – Vandross, Gaye, Freddie Jackson. And Joy Okoli? Hmm….now here you have a bundle of talent. Joy possesses both power in her voice and perfect stage command. Someday she will be a star! |
